We can all relate to those busy mornings as we prepare our children for school. If you prefer washing them at night like I do, we know where my story is headed to. It can get hair raising when you realize that your child wet the bed and you end up with a series of things to do that morning- bathe them again, wash the sheets afresh, and know where to air the mattress. While there are many myths and misconceptions going around on how to stop bed wetting, I have three ways that have proven to work when it comes to controlling bed wetting at home. Fasten your seat belts as we go through these amazing and simple ways:-

(a) Reduce the amount of fluids they take in the evening

The fluids you take in the evening are excreted at night in urine. If your child takes very many drinks in the evening, they increase their risks of urinating in bed that night. You should put a curfew on when they should put a hold on their intake for at least 2 hours before bed time. This will reduce the chances of you having to clean up in the morning!

(b) Let your child create a schedule to empty their bowel

This mainly applies for older children. They should train themselves on holding on for a few more minutes before they pass urine. This strengthens their sphincters and they are able to hold on to urine even when a sleep. That way, they will only pass urine intentionally and reduce incidences of doing it during sleep.

(c) Wake them up at night

If your child can have an alarm clock, the better and more convenient it becomes. You can also wake them up on alternate hours at night for them to go to the washrooms. If you do this for at least 30 days, it becomes a habit that eventually makes them learn how to wake themselves up. That reduces the number of times they wet the bed.
