This is a story that I have wanted to write for the longest time ever. Let us say, more than a year. If you are a writer, you will know the struggle that comes in phrasing articles to suit the voice that your readers are used to. I have always valued quality over quantity, and waiting till I can write at my best, to create content.

Just before we dive into it, let me address the elephant in the room. If you follow me on social media, (Which I would highly recommend.), you would have known by now that I received the Top 35 Under 35 Award. This was on 12th of August, during the International Youth Day, presided over by the President, Uhuru Kenyatta. I was awarded as Youth of the Year, Health Services/Projects category. All this has been possible because you read and share my work, without you all, I would not be here. Above all that, God has been gracious to me.

Now, a couple of years ago, near my home, there was a company giving booster doses of measles. It was a flower farming factory. There was an incentive to ensure that a lot of people showed up for the program, they would give the people free mosquito nets.

Days later, we heard of heartbreaking news. Apparently, some women had decided to take their children three times for the vaccination so that they would receive many mosquito nets. Sadly the children succumbed due to the vaccine overdose. Yes, you read that right, they died. You know, I just wondered how heartless some parents can be. To their defense, they could claim that they were not aware of the adverse effects of their actions. However, subjecting a child to three vaccination rounds is beyond my comprehension. The company above had the best intentions for the people, but some of them chose to abuse the opportunity.

Why I chose to highlight this is to remind us all that there is a schedule given by the government and hospitals concerning vaccinations. Never should one choose to take their children for more than the recommended vaccines because of any reasons. They are just like any other drugs and when taken in excess, harmful effects can be occur. If it is a booster dose, just have that one dose; do not look for crooked ways to benefit more in material things.

Do you have any stories on people who chose to be unscrupulous when it comes to vaccinations? Kindly let me know in the comment section and we can talk more. I look forward to connecting with all of you as we chit chat and catch up!

Lots of  Love,

Ruguru Kimani.
