Yeah, we will be talking about the spices of life, and everything nice. This will be a unique blog post, what I would like to call a special one. Its a rather personal one. Whether you are a parent or not, you need to enjoy the good things in life. I perfectly understand that parenthood comes with a lot of responsibilities and one might get lost and  forget themselves in it all.

This is why I encourage parents to keep a diary and keep track of their daily lives: their activities and their well-being. You will get organised and feel in control of what is going on around you. I have been journaling for two years now and I must say it has kept me at my best. I note down the things enjoy taking part in during certain seasons and also the food I eat most of the time. All this is to ensure that I maintain a balanced life. Here are the few things I have been keeping track of :

a) Reading. I have been reading Medical School books. Honestly they have taken away most of the time where I would enjoy reading a novel or two. For my leisure reads, I have been trying to read newspapers every time I get some time off. It keeps me in the know. I have also been reading lots of online baby-related journals.

b) Eating. I love ugali! I do not think there is a day that passes that I don’t at least have the delicious African meal. I have also been enjoying the juicy and chunky samosas served at Java. By the way, I am gluten intolerant so most of the pastries are out of my reach.

c)Wearing. I have been wearing most of the  official wear in my ward robe. Hospital rules dictate that you dress decently. That means that I have to set aside my clothes each evening before I sleep. Matching and mixing an outfit is not easy.

d)Drinking. I love lemon tea! Each morning I ensure that before I leave for school, I get a chance to drown a whole cup of the tea. On other days when I am feeling a little bit under the weather, I take some hot coffee. I do not fancy milk, but a bottle of soda each day is something I love to drink!

e) Loving. The weather in Kisumu is great! I just love how sunny it gets and one does not have to burrow in pullovers and trench coats. Its all lovely outside; perfect weather for a photo shoot. Its all the perfect moment for wonderful times at the lakeside.I have also been loving the person I have become, it has taken conscious effort into moulding myself.

f) Making. I am making an effort to ensure that I touch people’s lives each day. I want to use my social media platforms as a place where anyone feeling sad can come to and get hope and encouragement. I want to make an impact in people’s lives.

g) Sleeping. I enjoy sleeping. I get to bed pretty early and also rise early.

h)Thankful. I am grateful for the gift of life. I get to wake up each day and live a good life. I am happy and I have a God who loves me. I am also thankful for my friends and everyone around me who loves me. I am also thankful for the incentive to work hard and make myself a better person.

I)Smelling. As I write this now, I can smell some some fresh vanilla yoghurt that I have been sipping all through. It smells so good, I cannot say enough about it.

j) Wanting. I really want to go on a holiday. I know very well that we should create lives where we do not need to go on a holiday from, but I feel like I should go somewhere where the only effort I should make is breathing. I just want to go somewhere I can rest, and take off from the hustles of life.

k) Skin Care. I enjoy taking care of my skin. For my face, the farmasi skin care range of products has worked magic for me. For the masking, I make my own home made facial mask by mashing bananas and applying them on my skin. It woks like a charm! I have been using the nivea shower gel when bathing, it works just fine!

What have you been doing to take care of yourself? Kindly journal and let us know!

Lots of Love,

Ruguru Kimani.
