How have you been? I have missed you all in the personal stories section. We have been doing different kind of content previously and I felt it important to come out here and talk to you, personally. This Covid-19 period is a difficult one, we all have to self-isolate and stay home. It is quite different from what we are used to. This is definitely a new normal for us. Something I have never imagined would ever happen to us. One thing that I am sure about is that we will make it through this, and we will get out through the other side stronger than ever.
For this post, I will indicate everything as it is in my mind, and im my life. In the present moment, so get ready!
Making: Huge adjustments. You see, when this started, I thought that this would not take long, but now we are not sure how long we might have to stay indoors. Schedules have been changed up and a lot of things have to be done from home.
Eating: As I write this post, I am eating some mashed potatoes and pumpkin leaves. Sounds weird, right? I am allergic to wheat, and since people are having chapatti for supper today, I had to whip up something quick to suit my tummy.
Drinking: I am gravitating towards making a lot of Dawa for myself. This is a drink made of ginger, garlic, lemon and honey. It is keeping the colds away.
Reading: I am re-reading a book that was gifted to me by a friend; Nice girls don’t get the corner office. It is such an inspirational book that has shaped me up on how I present myself.
Wanting: All this to end and life can go back to normal. Also, praying that all the sick people with Covid-19 can get well soon.
Creating: My LinkedIn Profile. Kid you not, I was not conversant with how the platform works, but now I have a well crafted account that represents me properly. Today I even learnt how to add a background photo and also filling up the featured section.
Wishing: I could get a haircut from my favorite barbershop, Lifestyle Barbershop and Salon, In Tuskys Chania Thika. I have not left the house for the last one month, or so I guess. This feels like day 284,887 since we started staying at home. I recently tried having my hair cut at home and my God, I ended up with patches in my head.
Enjoying: How I can sleep in during my mornings and have zero guilt. I have decided to treat myself kindly, I will rest, and my body needed this.
Loving : Engage shows on YouTube. I love how stories are told on that platform, with such originality and humor.
Hoping: To get a solid work-out routine. I have been working out for the last 3 days and my thighs are sore, but I am decided to go all the way. I know this is painful, but my body will thank me for it later.
Marvelling : At how I am learning so much during this period. My most important lesson is that we should learn to give, without expecting something in return. Some favors are returned years later, when we do not even remember what we did, but when we desperately need kindness offered to us. I learnt this from George Ikua’s Engage Talk, you should watch it.
Smelling: The ginger in my Dawa. Somehow that stands out the most from the hurricane of flavors that I have put in.
Wearing: Sweat pants and a T-shirt. Also, Nivea Pearl deodorant gives me such a calming effect.
Following: Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday podcasts. Also, each time Michelle Ntalami puts up an instagram story, I always rush there to watch it. She has very enlightening content. God bless her soul.
Noticing: That there are so many online delivery companies coming up. One man’s meat, is another man’s poison. Literally, people have found a way to start and build their businesses during this pandemic, I am proud of them.
Knowing: I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
Feeling: Sort of lonely. I miss my friends, the numerous ice cream dates that we would have, but anyway, thanks to Google hangouts, we are still able to have conversations once in a while.
Opening: I will be opening my LinkedIn profile after this, just to see how many connections I am having now. Lol! This is the excitement I get when I join new social media platforms. If you want to see my page, look me up, it’s Ruguru Kimani. You might get some inspiration and tweak up yours too.
Giggling: At the memes I am seeing on people’s statuses. I have these amazing contacts that always put up such uplifting content, that I enjoy looking at once in a while.
This taking stock series is borrowed from Sharon Mundia, a lady I heavily borrow from. She is such an inspiration.
Let me know what you have been up to during this self-isolation period, and we can chat up in the comment section ☺ I really enjoy replying to your comments and knowing more about you.
Lots of Love,
Ruguru Kimani.
